Local restaurant serves food ‘to die for’
Those looking for good food fast might want to have a quick lunch at the Red Onion Café.
The Red Onion, located at 204 E. 4th Street in downtown Joplin, it features classic and contemporary appetizers, entrees, steaks, sandwiches and salads.
On a recent visit, I was greeted with a smile by a clean and well-dressed individual. The restaurant is well-lit, with lots of plants and colorful artwork giving the restaurant a roomy feel.
The Red Onion also has unique décor. For example, they have taken unfinished wood doors and cut them in half to use as shelves. The shelves are mostly filled with plants that are appealing to the eye and well maintained.
Soon after being seated, I had a drink in front of me, served by a waitress that was eager to help me with my order.
There is a tasty special each week and most lunch specials run in the $6.99 range. I chose the Downtown Grilled Chicken. Roasted with basil and other complementary spices, the chicken came out very juicy and full of flavor. The special came with a side of vegetables that were sautéed on the grill with seasoned red skin potatoes.
Red Onion starts from basic ingredients and builds a meal that is an experience. They have a balsamic vinaigrette for salads that bursts with flavor, and the deserts are to die for. For instance, the cheesecake will melt in your mouth. With the ambiance and the well-prepared food, the price is a great deal.
The Red Onion Café is locally owned and has been in operation since 1995.
