Aaron Tilsen named Southern’s new soccer coach
Missouri Southern has named Aaron Tilsen as the new women’s soccer head coach. Tilsen brings a lot to the table for the Lions after serving as the goalkeepers’ coach for the past two seasons at Minnesota State-Mankato.
Tilsen’s time at MSU were impressive as he helped lead the Mavericks to a 19-3-1 record, finishing in the top-25 nationally multiple times.
Tilsen looks to translate the success he has seen in the past into the present as he takes the reins as the Lions head soccer coach.
“I am excited to build a program that has amazing women student athletes who are coming here to play four years and compete daily to improve the program and have a ton of fun while doing it,” said Tilsen.
Involved in soccer since 1980, Tilsen has coached in many different capacities since his coaching journey began in 1995. He has coached various club teams, high schools, and most recently as an assistant at a university. Whatever the capacity, though, Tilsen knows what it takes to win: dedication.
“The players have been amazing. They are buying into the concepts on and off the field and they give me their complete dedication daily.”
Tilsen also expressed interest in reaching out to the community to help bring in local soccer fans.
“Expect us to do our best and get women’s soccer in the eyes of local potential fans. We will do a few local camps for recruits and local players to see the campus and meet the players and staff,” said Tilsen.
Southern’s soccer facilities and staff were some of the attractive parts about Southern in Tilsen’s decision to make the move to Southwest Missouri.
“I believe the facilities here at Southern are some of the best in the country. With a great group of players and coaching staff this should be the destination for the best local soccer talent.”
Last year the Lions women soccer team finished with a record of 7-8-3, and a 3-6-2 record in MIAA play.
The Lions first game will be at Southern Nazarene University in Bethank, Okla. on Friday, Sept. 6. Their home opener will be against Drury University on Friday, Sept. 13 at 6:00PM at Hal Bodon Field.
