Alumni to host athletes
Former athletes have been invited to return to Missouri Southern on Saturday, Feb. 23, for the MSSU All Athletic Reunion.
Elisa Bryant, alumni relations coordinator, said the Alumni Association had already received 85 RSVP’s from former athletes at the beginning of this week. Over 200 people are expected to attend the event. Attendees represent all sports. Some graduated from MSSU recently, while others graduated in the 1940’s.
The athletes will be honored as a group during halftime of the men’s game.
“We want to keep in contact with our MSSU athletes and recognize them as part of the alumni family,” said Lee Elliff Pound, alumni director.
Many athletes are bringing their families to the event as well.
“Several of our alumni have children playing sports in middle school and high school, so this is a great opportunity for them to come out,” Pound said. “They can be a part of the MSSU family too.”
A reception for the alumni will be held after the men’s game. Speakers include Head Baseball Coach Bryce Darnell and Head Football Coach Bart Tatum. Pound said alumni will also have a chance to relax and reminisce as they look through old yearbooks.
Bryant said the reunion not only gets athletic alumni to come back to the University, but it also gets them back to thinking about MSSU.
“The longer you’re away from the University, the more excited you are to come back and see campus growth,” she said.
