‘Anything Goes’ coming to Taylor
Dr. James Lile, director of Missouri Southern’s upcoming production of Anything Goes, has always been a fan of Cole Porter’s music and lyrics.
He is confident that next week’s performances will produce a new generation of Porter fans.
The play is a light-hearted romantic comedy set aboard the cruise ship “American” on its voyage to England. While there are conflicts, true love always wins in the end.
“The production is quite demanding,” Lile said. “Cole Porter is known for witty lyrics, interesting music, and a good deal of dancing.”
Lile described the 24-member cast as a good mix of music and theatre students.
“It has been a great collaborative effort,” Lile said. “The cast is wonderful.”
Lile also sang the praises of the directing staff and crew, including vocals by Dr. Susan Smith, costumes by Anne Jaros, choreography by Gerrie-Ellen Johnston and musical direction by Dr. Bud Clark.
“Some of Cole Porter’s best songs are in this, including “Delovely,” “I Get a Kick Out of You,” and “You’re the Top.”
Anything Goes will be performed March 5-8 in Taylor Auditorium. For information, persons may contact the Theatre Department at 625-9393, or www.mssu.edu/theatre.
