Ceramics highlight show
The Missouri Southern community has the opportunity to view the last student displays of two senior art majors tomorrow.
The Senior Exhibit will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the George A. Spiva Center for the Arts on West 3rd Street in Joplin.
Ceramics will be the emphasis of this exhibition. The seniors displaying work are Todd Petillo and Angel Brame. Both students are studio art majors with an emphasis in ceramics.
Petillo’s works are inspired by traditional Greek pottery, but he offers his own interpretation of the original form. He focuses on sweeping s-curves in his work.
“You can make anything out of clay,” Petillo said. “It is amazing.”
He hopes that the senior exhibit will help get his name out as an artist. He wants to “become an artist instead of a student.”
Brame values functional pieces. Her work focuses on color, durability, and usefulness.
Brame wants her pieces to inspire the audience to “reach out and touch” them by her use of color and texture.
“I appreciate ceramics,” Brame said. “You can pick it up and use it in the kitchen or on the counter.”
Brame’s first love is painting, but ceramics has become her new passion.
“You can incorporate painting into ceramics,” she said.
