CAB kicks off semester
After hosting a handful of events for Welcome Week, the Campus Activities Board sat down and had its first meeting of the semester.
Tori Christiansen, director of student activities, said she was worried at first because the Student Activities office was so far “off the beaten path,” and many of her leaders from last semester graduated over the summer.
“But the people from last year that showed up were the ones I know I can count on,” Christiansen said. “We also had about 10 new faces.”
The additions brought the turnout for the meeting up to 24 students.
“I’m looking forward to CAB this year,” said Monique Canada, senior biology major. “All the new faces make for a promising year ahead.”
After an initial introduction to CAB, the group discussed the upcoming events planned by last year’s group.
“We have room for a few fill-in events,” Christianson said. “But ideally, the goal is to have each semester planned entirely the semester before.”

She also discussed her ideas for what she is expecting out of the group’s leaders this year.
“I would like them to run the meetings, do the research and find the events,” Christiansen said. “I should just be here as an advisor.”
She said the group was not far from where it should be.
Out of the events planned for the semester, Christiansen said the big focus right now is Homecoming week and working with its theme “There’s no place like home.”
The group plans to have its meetings at 2:15 p.m. every Wednesday in Kuhn Hall Room 102 until the Billingsly Student Center reopens.
Kyle Cease will be the first comedian in CAB’s comedy night series. He is known as the ‘slow clapper’ from Not Another Teen Movie, and had a part in 10 Things I Hate About You. He has also made a couple of Comedy Central specials, one of which was the most played in 2006. Cease will take the stage in Corley Auditorium in Webster Hall after Thursday’s football game.
