Missouri Southern students will have a chance to learn about international study programs during the Study Abroad Fair, beginning at 10:30 AM Friday, Oct. 17 in the Billingsley Student Center (BSC).
The event, hosted by the Office of International Education, will have informational booths highlighting various destinations across Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.
One of these trips is Roots of Science: Art and Anatomy in Italy,” a May 2025 trip exploring the connection between art and medicine during the Renaissance. Students will visit cities such as Florence, Bologna, Siena, Venice, and Rome to study how anatomy influenced artistic development throughout history. Students at the fair can learn about new destinations, application deadlines, and scholarship opportunities. The Study Abroad Fair aims to inspire students to experience life beyond the classroom according to Brian Palmer, administrative assistant in the International Education office.
Studying abroad can have a lasting impact on students both personally and professionally.
“It’s a life-changing experience,” Palmer said.
“You gain an idea of your place in the world and how other cultures work. Even if you visit somewhere like England, you realize not everything happens the way it does here. People have different ideas and ways of doing things.” Palmer also emphasized that a study abroad experience helps graduates stand out to employers.
This year’s fall event has a specific focus on the short-term study abroad trips offered by MSSU, as the school offers both semester-long programs and shorter trips. Short-term faculty-led programs are typically offered during academic breaks and are led by MSSU faculty for academic credit. Another fair will be held in January, which will focus more on semester-long programs, giving students a chance to compare both types of opportunities.
