Missouri Southern football players exit the new endzone facility during last weekend’s game against Northwest Missouri State. The facility was made possible by a fan’s donation.

Missouri Southern has a new endzone facility this year that was designed to ease the transition for players between getting on and off the field.

“This project was the brain child of our Head Coach, Daryl Daye,” Jared Bruggeman, athletic director, said.

“We have, for the last couple of years, had a tent placed on the south portion of the football stadium for our team to go at halftime. This worked in getting the team into a place where they all could fit and didn’t have to go up into the small area on the west side of the stadium.

However, a more permanent, cleaner, better use of space and nicer designed structure could really enhance the pregame and halftime adjustments.”

The buildings are designed to last a minimum of 10 years before some repairs will need to be made and possibly the outer shell will need to be replaced.

The infrastructure and slab, as well as the general structure, can last much longer, according to Bruggeman.

“While it isn’t a major step, it’s a step in the right direction,” Bruggeman said.

The structure was made possible by a donation made from a fan of Southern football to the athletic department.

“[The donation] is extremely significant to getting the entire project being able to get done,” Bruggeman said.

The new facility is a small step towards the end goal for Southern.

“We try to enhance the University’s image, engage the community, provide a great environment for students, alums, parents and the local fans and provide a championship experience for all of our student athletes,” Bruggeman said.
