Lending a Golden Paw to adoptable animals

Joplin’s Golden Paw Animal Rescue and Sanctuary is gearing up for their annual Fall Festival on Sat., Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Golden Paw’s Fall Festival is a family-oriented event, which features different activities such as face painting, vendor booths, a pet costume contest and even an aerialist.

Admission to the Fall Festival is free, however, patrons in attendance can purchase a hot dog, a drink, chips and cookies courtesy of Main Street Pet Care for a $2 donation.

“I’m excited to get some animals out to good homes,” said Hallie Turner, Golden Paw Office assistant, and junior Missouri Southern student.

Alexis Prado, manager at Golden Paw and sophomore early education major, credits the company’s ethical values and community involvement to their continued success throughout the community.

“Golden Paw is the only no-kill shelter in Jasper County, so the more we can get out there and get Golden Paw known animals will never have to go to those other shelters,” said Prado.

Aside from the Fall Festival, Golden Paw is always looking for volunteers for various tasks. Whether it be community service hours or school projects, Prado said college kids volunteer frequently.

“Most people come and play with the animals, most of our big dogs don’t get out as much as we’d like because the people I’m paying are cleaning.

Golden Paw welcomes volunteers during their open hours which are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
