Southern theatre presents … One-act plays

Lara Hicks, Kent Phillips, Zack Self, Kayla Curran, Kyle Maloney, Devon Seaman, Alycia Allen, Ashley Trotnic, Melissa Mullen, Chelsea Prettyman, Kelsey Amann and Todd Manley have written and directed a series of one-act plays which will run from April 13 to April 18 in the Black Box Theatre.

“Unspoken” Written and Directed by Kent PhillipsThree siblings come together to work through the death of their father and the trials that come with it.Cast: Joseph Hobbs, Angela Moore and Michael Garoutte.“Tangible” Written and Directed by Melissa Mullen Four struggling artists try to change the world. In their attempts the artists grow as people and in the end they come together to create one final project.Cast: Jordynn Poe, Melissa Holt, Joy Dworkin, Kevin Dietz, Josh Mullen, Meg Berrian, Joseph Hobbs and Kyle Grover. “Something in the Silence”Written and Directed by Alycia AllenIn a world without music, people struggle to identify something for which they have no name.Cast: Jeff Thomas, Jade Leggott, Lacy Smith, Kyle Johnson, Jillian Smith, Stephen Schiavo and Matt Baum.“Shades of Maureen”Written and Directed by Kayla CurranA girl plays two roles to appease her preacher father and lesbian mother. Everything is messed up when a writer decides to become part of the story.Cast: Todd Manley, Meagan Morrison, Dustin Sisney and Betty Willems.April 14 and 17

“El Viaje” Written and Directed by Todd ManleyA young man decides society is too confining and bids farewell to his family before going on a spiritual journey.Cast: Ryan Hackett, Abby Quin, Carolyn McGowen, Cassie Wardie, Kyle Grover and Jose Alarez.

“Sex, Alcohol and Control”Written and Directed by Lara HicksA woman decides to prioritize her life and kick her addiction to alcohol after realizing her life is falling apart and her children are paying for it.Cast: Brandi Hoofnagle and Mike Smith.

“Changed”Written and Directed by Chelsea PrettymanTwo married actors decide to have an affair with one another to save their marriage.Cast: Christie Hayes and Derrik Goth.

“An Attempt at Melancholia with an Ice Storm”Written and Directed by Kyle MaloneyA group of college students are trapped in the middle of nowhere during an ice storm. Several scenarios play out as cabin fever sets in.Cast: Zack Self, Brandi Hoofnagle, Brett Hecksher, Autumn Osborne and Dustin Sisney.

“The Gift” Written and Directed by Zack SelfRyan opens his eyes and decides to live his life to the fullest.Cast: Kyle Johnson, Brenda Jackson, Jordynn Poe, Matt Myers and Ron Leiser.“Fat Kids”Written and Directed by Devon SeamanA group of kids go to fat camp to confront a Nazi-like instructor and Pete, a skinny kid who has potential to get them all into trouble.Cast: Autumn Osbourne, Jude Leggott, Hunter Dowell, Jessica Tallman, Gary Roney, Brett Hecksher, Alycia Allen, Caleb Ewing and Drew Baker.

“Trouble” Written and Directed by Ashley TrotnicA mother’s addiction to pills is destroying her family while the father tries to hold everything together.Cast: Phillip Shamblin, Karen Lasater, Katelyn Lasater and Kay Cypret.“Marianne”Written and Directed by Kelsey AmamnA man brings his fiancé to meet his parents. While staying overnight, he discovers that she is not the woman he thought she was.Cast: Kyle Maloney, Kristen Shook, Matt Myers, Jill Smith and Caleb Ewing.
