The Lions’ record falls to 2-7 after losing to the University of Central Oklahoma. The Lions started the game with a quick 14-0 lead, but failed to score again until near the end of the third quarter while allowing the Bronchos to score 24 straight points. The Bronchos would then go on to win the game 52-27.

“We want to be more balanced. Against the teams we have beat this year, we have looked more like the team we want to be,” said Jeff Sims. “We had a 14-point lead against a team that we lost to by 30 last season, so we can see the improvement. We want to compete for championships and be the best we can be. We are better than what we were a year ago, but we are not where we want to be. It’s about consistency which is what have lacked this year. That could be because of our play or just running out of gas.”

The Lions starting quarterback, senior Jacob Park would throw for 292 yards and three touchdowns with one interception, while junior Charles West would get 103 yard from scrimmage and a receiving touchdown. The Lions leading receiver would be senior Benjamin Phillips who caught two passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns.

The Lions next game will be against Emporia State University who are 2-7 on the season. The Hornets have lost five straight. The Hornets leading passer is Dalton Cowan who has thrown for 1,683 yards on the season with 11 touchdowns. Cowan is also second on the Hornets in rushing touchdowns with four behind Carlos Grace who has six.

The game will be Saturday, Nov. 9, at 3 p.m. at Fred G. Hughes Stadium. Before the game MSSU will honor the senio football players for senior night.
