Soccer hosts Missouri-St. Louis

Fresh-cut green grass awaits the Lions to grace its presence and kick off another season here at Missouri Southern soccer team.

Last year the Lions compiled a 5-8-5 overall record, including 5-6-5 in the MIAA.

“We had great work ethics, and the team showed lots of effort, we just couldn’t put it all together at times, which lead to a rough season,” Head Coach Alese Woolard said.

High school additions Kelsey Haist and Katelyn Roberson join Division-I transfer Abby Risner from Mississippi State University.

The Lions have a mixture of upperclassmen and underclassmen that will look to turn the tables this year and put in a successful season, placing them atop the conference.

“We know Central Missouri, Truman, and all the other elite teams in our conference are going to make it difficult to claim the title this season,” Woolard said.

Woolard mentioned that her team will draw some motivation from coming away with ties of some of the MIAA’s best last season.

“We have a very talented group this season,” Woolard said. “I think if we can gel together and play as a team we can do some damage this season. I am looking forward to watching my players grow from game to game this season and see the team mesh together into the team I expect them to be.”

The Lions kick off their season at home against the University of Missouri-St.Louis at 6 p.m. tonight.
