Senior accounting major Ethan Stenger jumps to spike the ball in an intramural volleyball match Tuesday. His team, Scurvy Deception, won the match.

Last week, the intramural athletics season opened up at Missouri Southern with four-on-four sand volleyball. Games were played on Tuesday and Thursday between the six men’s teams, two women’s teams, and nine co-ed teams. Games continued this week on Tuesday and Thursday. Although the new team sign-up deadline for this sport has passed, games will be held at the sand volleyball court near the residence halls on campus between 6 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. and spectators are welcome.

Also starting this week was seven-on-seven flag football, with a total of 12 teams signed up to play.

The 12 teams are divided into two divisions, the Rod Smith division and the James Thrash division. Each team will play five games in the regular season, and the top three teams from each division will make the playoffs. Once in the playoffs, only three games stand between the players and an intramural championship.  Games are to be played on the intramural fields behind the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Persons interested in playing sports with friends, or the prospect of winning a T-shirt, may contact Intramural Coordinator and Supervisor Landon Adams at [email protected]. Additional information can be gathered by liking the “MSSU Intramural Sports” Facebook page.

In the meantime, colored flyers advertising the upcoming intramural sports will be available around campus for registration. Also, team standings are available through IMLeagues.com.
