Volleyball team takes to Bolivar to face Bearcats

Splitting a pair of matches last weekend with a win over Fort Hays State and falling in set three to Emporia State University, the Missouri Southern volleyball team stands 2-4 in the MIAA.

The Lions ran the Fort Hays State Tigers all the way to the fifth set to send the Tigers home with a 15-12 loss.

“We fought hard and found a way to win,” Head Coach Trish Knight said.

Freshman Casey Ball took the lead in kills at 17, while sophomore Sydney Potts set up 53 assists.

Coming into Saturday’s game, the Lions did not unfold the same story, getting shut out 3-0 against Emporia State University.

“They still don’t know about showing up on gameday,” Knight said. “The MIAA is one of the hardest conferences in Division-II.”

Senior Rachel Olinyk led with eight kills while Potts dished out 25 assists.

The MIAA currently ranks Washburn and Central Missouri in the Top-10 nationally. Emporia State and Truman State are receiving recognition in the NCAA Rankings as well.

The Lions’ record hangs at 4-14 overall. Just over halfway through their season, the Lions are looking to climb the ladder in the conference.

The Lions will be back in action again tomorrow in Bolivar, where they will take on the Southwest Baptist Bearcats. The Bearcats also sit 2-4 in the conference and 7-12 overall.
