Leah Collins, sophomore dental hygiene major, shows off her new Henna tattoo at Missouri Southern State University on April 9, 2013

Campus Activities Board sponsored henna tattoos for students as a part of the Diversity Week events that took place last Tuesday in the Lion’s Den.  Students could choose from

free-form designs that were as elaborate or as simple as the student wanted.

In Middle Eastern cultures, henna tattooing is still a whole-day affair during which new bride gets to know the groom’s mother and sisters.

It is a celebratory, rather than a spiritual, ritual, equivalent to the pre-wedding makeover of Western brides.
