The Cosmopolitan event center, located at 501 S. Main in Joplin, is hosting two Valentine’s Day parties on Feb. 14 and 15.

While both are centered around Valentine’s Day, singles and groups are encouraged to attend, as well as couples. Both are open to anyone over age 18.

Tickets for both events will be sold at the door for $75.  That cost includes admission, dinner, dessert and up to six drink tickets per guest, to be used at the bar.

Guests are expected to dress in formal attire for both events, but “Frosted” attendees are also encouraged to break out their 1920s digs as this event will be similar to the Great Gatsby party that The Cosmopolitan hosted on Dec. 31.

Both nights will have a game for couples similar to the game show ‘The Newlyweds,’ according to event coordinator Kerrie Englund.  The winning couple each night will win lodging and dinner at The John Wise House, an 1898 mansion located at 5th and Byers.

Ice and Fire Valentine’s Day Affair:  Dinner, DJs, and Dancing

Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

This event will have a DJ and will be more of a modern dance club style.

“Absolute Custom Entertainment will be here doing all the lights and sound and they actually have specialty lights that they have made just for our facility,” said Englund.

Frosted:  A Cool Big Band Valentine’s Weekend Ball

Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

This event is centered on big band music, swing dancing, salsa, and many other forms of ballroom dancing.  An instructor will be present to do group lessons in each dance style.

“It’s the instructor who did our New Year’s Eve party too, and everybody loved it,” said Englund.

Music will be provided by Northwest Arkansas’ 17-piece JM Band and the JM jazz combo.

Kerrie Englund is one of the four Cosmo Girlz who help make up the staff of The Cosmopolitan.

“We are a fully staffed event center, and we do everything from corporate events to full on wedding planning,” said Englund. “As far as being a venue and having those services, we’re the only one in town. We do the whole nine yards.”
