Reagan leads women’s team following two event victories at opening meet in Pittsburg

The outdoor season started where the indoor left off for the Lions of Missouri Southern as the men and women’s teams earned event wins and provisional qualifications in their opening meet.

The squad was split between two meets to open the outdoor season.

First was the Washington University Invite in St. Louis, where sophomore Eric Schott placed seventh in the 5k while setting the top provisional time in Division II, 14:23.75, breaking the previous time by three seconds.

The other was the Pittsburg State Invite where the Lions also made their mark. Earning provisionals in pole vault from sophomore Brady Melugin, who won the event with a height of 16-05, as well as senior Raymond Woldtvedt who placed fourth with a height of 15-09.75.

“Our expectations have been the same since I’ve been here, “ said senior Jazz Allen, “and that is to win championships.”

Not to be outdone were the Southern women, who accumulated nine top-three finishes and the top honor in both the triple jump and long jump via sophomore Brittani Reagan.

Also picking up provisionals were junior pole vaulter Ashleigh McFarland, 11-08.50 and Kylie Cornman in the shot put with a distance of 44-04.0.

Southern looks to continue its strong season this weekend as the team travels to the Emporia State Relays.
