A quiet, comfortable atmosphere where one can meet friends and enjoy good food may sound like the perfect place.

Char’s Java House opened on Nov. 13, and Charlene Gauthier, owner of the coffee shop, promises a great place for everyone.

Gauthier is not new to the business world. She used to own her own trucking company and decided she was ready to stay home. When deciding what to do with her time, she realized she could not work for anyone else and decided to open her own coffee shop.

“I have always enjoyed coffee,” Gauthier said. “I learned to explore my palette.”

The coffee beans are locally grown and guaranteed to be fresh. Keen Bean is the roaster. He is also new to the business.

They have a variety of bulk beans people can buy and take home.

Gauthier said the coffee shop has been in progress for about two years. She said the uniqueness of her coffee and the location of her store are what give her a better start then other coffee shops in the past.

Customers agree Char’s Java House is a great place to eat.

“They have the best coffee in town and the freshest sandwiches,” said Trish Dixon, customer. “I love how they always put everything away when they are finished; everything stays fresh.”

Entertainment is offered at various times, and an acoustic band plays once a month.

Gauthier is always looking for new ways to expand her shop. She is adding her personal baby grand piano to offer music throughout the day. She is also looking to start a dating notebook so people can meet singles at the coffee shop.

A variety of coffees are served daily, and from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., soups, salads and sandwiches are served. She lives by her motto “where good friends meet.”

The hours of operation are 7 a.m.- 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and Fri-Sat 7 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The shop is located at 1007 E. 20th St. Persons can obtain information by calling 781-CHAR.
