Student group seeks green, gold essence

The Campus Activities Board wants to see more green and gold at the football games this semester. All of CAB’s planned activities for the next year focus on increasing Missouri Southern’s school spirit.

The new club Gang Green was the main topic of the semester’s first CAB meeting. Julie Blackford, director of student activities, estimates that between 50 and 60 students have signed up for the new club that is described as a “giant pep club.” CAB has plans for everything from free tailgates to T-shirts to boost school spirit through Gang Green.

Time was also devoted to New York Fire Department Battalion Commander Richard Picciotto’s presentation scheduled for Wednesday. Final arrangements were made for his transportation and accommodations while in Joplin.Planning was discussed for Natural High Week scheduled for September 12 -20. Another installment of the student organization’s “Fall Forward” expo is scheduled for Sept. 17, because the original was moved indoors due to rain.

The group discussed what kind of CAB products to hand out during campus events like T-shirts, radios and hand held misters.

Members present voiced their approval of separating the student organization expo from the area business expo because it allowed for a larger amount of student traffic for each event.

Other upcoming events were discussed including a karaoke night serving virgin pina coladas and daiquiris, and Homecoming 2003.

The Homecoming theme this year is “The Southern Stampede.” Some of the suggested activities were giant trampolines, a Velcro wall, human bowling, and giant tricycles.

Halloween events were briefly discussed. A scary movie night is in the works as well as a pumpkin carving contest and a costume contest.

The next CAB meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m.
