After rounding out a perfect sweep against the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats, Missouri Southern’s men basketball team went hunting for a second win, but came up short.

The Emporia State University Hornets shut down the Lions, 91-88. Head coach Robert Corn said the the thing that hurt the team the most were turnovers.

“Looking back at a three point loss, the thing that stands out the most was the turnovers,” Corn said. “We had 21 turnovers.”

During the game against ESU, junior guard Hiram Ocasio moved up to second place on the all-time steals list for Southern. Ocasio currently holds 163 steals, 220 short of the record held by Eddin Santiago. He is currently averaging 2.2 steals per game.

Corn said Ocasio is no longer “gambling” with taking those opportunities. Before the ESU game, Southern defeated SBU, 96-66. Corn said one of the things that stands out from the Bearcats game was the defensive play.

The Lions will be in action Saturday at Washburn University.
