Fluoride makes teeth happy

Community water fluoridation. What’s the big deal?

Why are we debating over this?

Is there something wrong with healthier teeth?

The point is this, water fluoridation is cheap. For a mere three dollars a year, we can enjoy water that basically tastes the same, looks the same and comes out of the faucet, meaning you don’t have to work for it.

Sure, students probably don’t care that much, unless, of course, someone is on their own and needs every cent they can spare.

But water fluoridation is perfect for college students.

Fluoridated water will help students get more out of their toothpaste and give them a shiny, but monetarily cheap, smile.

It works like this: fluoride is inserted and monitored in the water supply.

When a person takes a drink, the fluoride bonds to the enamel of teeth, strengthening them, helping to prevent plaque buildup and tooth decay.

It will also help prevent early tooth decay, that is, decay so subtle it can only be seen under a microscope.

Is it safe?

Of course it is.

Scientists have been studying water fluoridation since the 1940s.

It is proven safe and effective by the American Dental Association.

So, when presented with the idea for water fluoridation, Southern should smile, open wide and take a big sip from the water fountains.

There is nothing to fear but gingivitis.
