On a fall day in October, Karla Robertson finally found her niche.

After years in retail, Robertson decided to do what she has always wanted to do.

“When I was little, I would go to fabric stores with my grandma,” she said.

Robertson said she instantly became fascinated. She would eventually open the Chic Shaque on 630 Northpark Lane.

Roberston said her establishment has something for the cutting edge trendy to the classically elegant shopper.

Stepping through the doors of the Chic Shaque, the new business has bedding and bath furnishings, lingerie, handbags, jewelry, candles and a bridal and gift registry.

The Chic Shaque displays colors to influence the upcoming summer season.

“Pearlized, metallic and beaded embellishments are on everything from handbags, camis, shoes and belts,” Robertson said.

Robertson’s business carries items she said would make great gift ideas.

Gifts for Mother’s Day, graduation and weddings can be attained in the store.

Robertson said she wanted to provide something for the area so that people do not have to go to other cities or out of town to get “higher end products.”

“I bring a unique mix of products,” she said.

Jill Smith, employee at the Chic Shaque since its opening, said she enjoys working there because of it is unique.

Smith also said her friends seem to like it, coming in frequently.

“No one else carries the lines that we have,” she said.

Robertson said the Chic Shaque has a wide range demographic from the ages of 18 to 45.

Robertson also said there are “price points” for everyone.

“Some people come in and assume it’s all high-end, and it’s not,” said Robertson.

Robertson said customers would come in and purchase anything from a piece of jewelry for a dollar to a more expensive bed.

The location of the store was chosen because Robertson saw the future progress that was going to occur in the area with the building of Kohl’s.

To appeal more to the college age students Chic Shaque will be addng denim lines in March including Seven and Citizens Jeans.
