Greek flavor has made its mark in Joplin.

Mythos Euro Greek Kuzina opened April 4. Since its opening, Mythos has welcomed all sorts of customers.

Having grown up in the restaurant business, Jaime Michalopoulos, wife of owner George Michalopoulos, said it has always been a dream of theirs to own their own restaurant.

“We always wanted to do something different that Joplin doesn’t have,” Jamie said.

Because of his and his wife’s Greek heritage, the choice seemed to fit.

So far, she said the response has been great and anyone anticipating a trip to the establishment can expect an eclectic setting.

With its Greek architecture and valet parking, she said Mythos provides an upscale appearance.

“We provided a building that’s different and an interior that’s different than most restaurants,” Jamie said.

Fresh-cut certified Black Angus steak and fresh seafood along with and various types of cuisine are what can be expected at what George describes to be a “casual dining experience”.

Filet and prawn are what he said are menu favorites.

He even brought in a chef from Kansas City who George said is not only an excellent chef, but occasionally creates his own dishes that are sometimes run as specials on the menu.

Marqui Chaney, sophomore kinesiology major, and Allison Curci, freshman communication major, work as a bartender and hostess, respectively, at Mythos since its opening and said they too have received positive feedback.

As a bartender, Chaney said the top requests he normally receives is the martinis and cosmopolitans.

George said Mythos even has its own beer imported for those students who just want to come in and relax with a drink.

One of the problems with Mythos is its misconception because of its appearance and its name.

“A lot of people see the building and think it’s got to be expensive,” George said.

He said he wants potential customers to know they can come and eat just as much as they would at any other food establishments at affordable prices.

Even more important than the food, Curci said, is Mythos is the only restaurant she has worked at that allows the customer to enjoy their meal.

“We don’t rush people in and out,” Curci said. “We allow customers to enjoy their food and we try to be respectful.”

He encourages students seeking employment especially for the holiday season to come and take a look at the establishment.

“We provide the top quality of food and our service is impeccable,” George said. “And that’s what’s going to keep us around here for a long time.
