Spiva Library gambles

The staff of Spiva Library wants to know if Missouri Southern has “game.”

As part of the University’s United Way campaign, the library will be hosting a game night, which is a first for the library and a first for its contribution to the United Way campaign.

“We are hoping to not only raise money for the United Way, but to also get families and the community involved as well,” said Amber Carr, public services librarian.

There will be games for everyone, as well as drawings for several prizes, which include movie rentals, an autographed picture of (former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback) Eric Warfield, and various games.

“We are still waiting to hear from a few businesses, but there could be something big in the drawing as well,” Carr said.

To be entered in the drawings, all that is necessary is paying the cover charge to get in. The charge is $3 per person or $10 per family.

The game night will be held on the first floor of Spiva.

In addition to games and drawings, there will also be snacks and the computers will be available for Internet gaming.

“We will have the Playstation hooked up to the big screen, and we’ll have a DVD/CD game like Scene It. There will also be card games and board games like Monopoly, Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit.

There will also be family games such as Operation and Memory, Jr.”

Carr said future game nights could be considered based on the turnout at tonight’s event.

“We’d love to host something like this again, definitely,” she said.
