Junior second baseman Emily McPeters makes solid contact Wednesday against Lincoln University as sophomore catcher Angie Turner looks on. The Lions are 10-24 this season and will resume conference play today at Missouri Western.

According to assistant coach David Wright, the Lions’ softball team completed the longest game in Southern history on Wednesday.

The Lions swept Lincoln in the continuation of a series that began in Lincoln on March 20.

The Lions won game one 2-1. Sophomore Lacee Craig pitched a complete game, although it didn’t take her 30 days to do it, for the win. Craig struck out eight in the effort. Sophomore catcher Angie Turner had two hits.

In game two, the Lions only needed five innings to complete the sweep as they won 8-0. Turner hit her seventh home run over the center field fence. Freshman designated player Sam Neely went 3 for 3 in the victory for the Lions. Turner and junior right fielder Kayleigh Cecil each had two hits. In game two, seven of nine starters for the Lions had at least one hit.

“We HIT the ball,” head coach Aron Potter said after the game. “How’s that for a quote?

“We had a big inning in the second with two outs.

“Sam Neely worked on pitch selection at the plate and it showed today.”

Craig pitched four innings in game two to pick up the win and bring her record to 7-13. She also struck out three to bring her season total to 115; she had 79 all of last year.

The Lions will continue conference play today at Missouri Western and tomorrow at Northwest Missouri State.

The Lions are 10-24 on the year.
