Barbre selected in 4th round

Starting in mini-camp this summer, former Missouri Southern football player Allen Barbre will be wearing a green jersey of a different kind.On day two of the 2007 NFL Draft the Green Bay Packers selected Barbre with the 119th pick. With this selection Barbre became Southern’s highest draft pick ever.”He ran a 4.64 and had 28 reps, for a player coming out of an NCAA Division II school that doesn’t have a weight program, 28 reps is pretty encouraging . . . he can really improve on that in an NFL weight program,” said Gil Brandt NFL.com senior analyst. Barbre’s 40-yard dash was the fastest of all offensive linemen at the combine.Barbre was the first player taken out of the MIAA (Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association).Barbre was a stand out at Southern, starting for four years after redshirting out of high school. In his senior year Barbre earned 1st team All-MIAA and All-America honors. He was the only player in the conference to be selected unanimously to the All-MIAA 1st team. He also played on special teams, recording 10 tackles on punt coverage. In 2005, Barbre ran for a touchdown against Truman State out of a formation called “Fat City” in honor of former Lions’ head coach and offensive lineman John Ware, who passed away just days before.
