Ann Quade is the recipient of the first Library Empoyee of the Year award. Library Director Wendy McGrane describes Quade as always on task and “always willing to go the extra mile.”

Ann Quade, Administrative Assistant of the George A. Spiva Library, is the recipient of the first Library Employee of the Year award.

Melissa Forsythe, circulation manager, and some other employees wanted to recognize a hard working member of the library.

They decided to hand out ballots on a staff training day and have all in attendance nominate an employee.

“I thought it would be nice to offer recognition … to someone who has made a significant changes to the library this year,” Forsythe said.

The award was given to Quade on Jan. 9. Though there was no ceremony, she seemed overjoyed at the flower, a note in Accents, and warm wishes from friends she has received with the award.

“It makes me feel good that my fellow employees feel that I would qualify for (the award).” Quade said.

Forsythe explained why Quade deserved the award.

“She’s just incredibly nice and thoughtful all the time.

“She’s very patient and always in a good mood; she’s always working, and everybody likes her.”

Though the job often becomes stressful, Quade enjoys her work because it helps her stay current on new books. She also enjoys the atmosphere, which is created by fellow employees and younger people she helps.

“Ann (Quade) has a wonderful personality. She is very professional and always on task,” said Wendy McGrane, library director.

Quade’s likeable modesty shines through as her dominant trait.

“The reward in itself is knowing that my fellow colleges would consider me qualified for that position,” she said. “There are many others who are more qualified that I work with.”

“She’s terrific,” McGrane said. “She’s always willing to go the extra mile.”
