Scoreboard lights leave some laughing

As I was traveling over to the Missouri Southern softball games Friday, I saw a sight that made me laugh inside. If I had a bigger floorboard in my car I would have been ROTFLMAO.

Thank you to the people who understood that.

The event staff workers were replacing the lights on the newly acquired scoreboard that sits off the track inside Fred G. Hughes Stadium.

There were several lights that had gone out since the last track and field meet and the staff was preparing for the upcoming MSSU Invitational.

The scoreboard was switched on to reveal that a large number of bulbs were no longer operational.

The lights that had burnt out were marked and the scoreboard was shut off. The staff carefully replaced all of the marked lights and turned the scoreboard back on.

Much to everyone’s surprise, during the process of replacing the bad bulbs, numerous other bulbs had burnt out as well. The process had to be done all over again.

This brought up the question of why our “new” scoreboard, acquired from the University of Arkansas, was in such poor condition already?

Watching the event was simply laughable. How much is it going to cost in the future to continually maintain this scoreboard?

Aside from the problems of cost, the scoreboard adds an aesthetically pleasing look to the current facilities at Fred G. Hughes. We can’t complain too much.

Students are welcome to watch the lights go out for themselves at the MSSU Invitational today.

The event is BYOB. Bring Your Own Bulbs.
