04-04-2009Ill StudentAnderson Justice CenterAt 11:30 a.m., DPS was dispatched to Anderson Justice Center to care for an ill student. The student reported to the officer that he was suffering from chest pains, numbness in his arms and shortness of breath. Joplin Fire Department arrived on the scene shortly after DPS, where they took over monitoring the student. METS arrived and transported the student to the hospital for further treatment. Liquor Law ViolationGockel HallDPS received a call at 3:20 a.m., for a request to let a student into their room in Gockel Hall. DPS arrived and unlocked the student’s door, noticing a keg in the living room and other liquor bottles on the table. DPS woke up the student’s roommate and questioned him about a possible party. The student said that he didn’t know anything about a party though he appeared to DPS to be intoxicated. The resident director of Gockel Hall was notified. It was determined that the student who was locked out of the room did not have anything to do with his roommate’s party and the keg and liquor bottles were confiscated. The roommate was written up by both DPS and the resident director for violating campus liquor laws.04-06-2009TheftEast HallAt approximately 7:09 p.m., DPS responded to a call from East Hall reporting a theft. The student who reported the theft left the room at 6:20 p.m. to go to the cafeteria and came back to the room at 7 p.m., when she noticed that her HP laptop was not on her bed where she left it. The student claimed to be absolutely sure that she had locked her door. The computer and power cord are valued at $1,010 and were black and silver in color.
