CAB prepares for busy semester of events

This fall semester on campus – and off – is planned to be packed with events by the Campus Activities Board.

At the CAB meeting Wednesday in the Billingsly Student Center, CAB members and Director of Student Activities Tori Christiansen, discussed the upcoming events.

“Instead of having a monthly movie night, we’ll be doing ‘movie series,’ provided by Swank [Motion Pictures],” Christiansen said. These series will be shown the third week of every month, starting Sept. 14.

Christiansen said that movies for the CAB movie series would be “pre-released,” or before they hit DVD, including The Haunting in Connecticut. The Haunting will be showing Oct. 12-15 this fall. (More movies have yet to be announced.)

Other highly anticipated, and off-campus, events are those involving tickets. Thirty students are estimated to have the opportunity to attend a Kansas City Chiefs game against the Dallas Cowboys on Oct. 11. Four tickets for a Dave Matthews Band concert, to be given away in sets of two, will be for the concert Sept. 30 in Kansas City. To enter one needs to simply attend CAB events with their student IDs.

Today the “Lion’s ROAR” will be held on the oval from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to showcase Missouri Southern’s registered student organizations. “Survivor Night” will also be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. tonight on the residence hall lawn for those who “survived” their first week of college. Free food, music, slip-n-slide and more attractions will be offered to “survivors.”

Homecoming events, also run by the CAB, start Sept 21 through 26. These events will include royalty voting, “funny tees,” an all campus picnic, game show, and the 3rd annual Homecoming bonfire.

The first Thursday of every month is comedy night at MSSU. The first comedian scheduled is Kyle Dunnigan for 7 p.m., Sept. 3, in Corley Auditorium in Webster Hall. Other comedians to follow are Ronnie Jordan, Jen Kober and a student comedy showcase will be held at the end of the semester.

All CAB events are free to all MSSU students with their student IDs.
