Nummela notches D2’s top time in 1500-meter

Despite poor weather conditions at last weekend’s John McDonnell Invite at the University of Arkansas, seniors Aki Nummela and Corey Reynolds both picked up provisionals in their respective events.

“It was tough to compete in the weather, but everyone had to do it. It may be good that we did, because we might have to do it in the conference meet,” Head Coach Tom Rutledge said.

The Men’s 400-meter relay team won first place in a time of 42.91; just seconds off of a provisional mark.

Rutledge was very pleased with Nummela’s performance in the rain. Nummela ran the 1500-meter in a provisional time of 3:51.29, the top Division-II time.

Rutledge feels like the experience gained by competing at Division-I meets is very important to the growth of the team, especially the underclassmen.
