Senior defensive lineman Brandon Williams draws a triple team in Missouri Southern’s homecoming game against South Dakota Mines. Williams finished his collegiate career with 27 sacks, a school record.

Missouri Southern defensive tackle Brandon Williams has been named the nation’s top defensive player by Beyond Sports Network.

Williams, the University’s all time leader in sacks, finished his career as a leader both on and off the field for his team.

He’s been named to several All-America teams throughout his career and recently received an invite to the annual Senior Bowl, a college exhibition game designed to showcase the best talent in the country across all divisions. That game will be played Jan. 26 in Mobile, Ala. and will pit Williams against some of the best offensive linemen around.

A solid performance in that game could raise Williams’ draft stock. The senior is currently being projected as a mid-round pick for April’s draft, and he’s spoken with every NFL team multiple times about playing on Sundays for them in 2013.
