Men’s track places with successful provisionals

Friday the Missouri Southern Men’s track and field team attended the Jayhawk classic at the University of Kansas.

Senior thrower Dustin Green placed fifth in the shot put with a provisional distance of 53-3.75, moving up to a 15 national ranking.

Senior thrower Seth Hackney followed in sixth place with a provisional distance of 51-9.75. Senior thrower, Evan Moore placed sixth in the weight throw with a distance of 55.5.75.

Junior Jazz Allen placed seventh in the 60-meter with a time of 8.51.

Sophomore distance runner Andrew Webster earned second place in the mile with a time of 4:20.49.

Senior Michael Juergens pole vaulted a 10 place provisional height of 6-1.25.

“I think this year we have one of the best track teams that southern has ever had and it shows. We are a very very strong team and we’re ranked eighth in the nation,” Juergens said.  

It’s going to be a really awesome season and a really awesome meet this weekend because we’re at home.”

Junior jumper Clark Tanksley placed seventh in the high jump at a height of 6-6.75.

 “It opened everyone’s eyes. It doesn’t matter if you reached your expectations or not, just know that you have to keep pushing forward and look ahead to the next week, you can always do better than what you did,” Sophomore Jumper Darion Boure said.

Boure earned a provisional with a distance of 47-5 earning seventh place, Boure also placed 16 in the long jump.

“Being at home this weekend we’re hoping to have them recover quite a bit,” Head Coach Tom Rutledge said. “Hopefully get some of our people back on top. Get them used to getting back to class, get them back to their everyday life.”

The lions will be back in action, at home at the Leggett and Platt Athletic Center fr the Lion Invite.
