Guest Columnist: Obama administration to blame for current economic concerns

In 2008, then candidate Barack Obama, said that President Bush adding $4 trillion to the national debt was ‘unpatriotic’. Here we are almost a year into the presidents second term and he has added over $6 trillion to the national debt, bringing the total to over $16 trillion. Now, many say that the president inherited a bad economy, and maybe that argument held true for the first few years of his presidency. The fact is that it has been five years and this is now the Obama economy.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment number (U3) fell from 7.9 percent in February to 7.7 percent in March. The only problem is that these numbers do not account for workers who are under employed or have given up looking for work entirely. The real unemployment number (U6) which accounts for the aforementioned workers, is just over 14 percent.

Throughout Obama’s presidency he has refused to take responsibility for his policies, blaming America’s economic woes on the tsunami in Japan, Bush, the Arab Spring, Republicans and even ATMs. Let us not forget that President Obama enjoyed a luxury few presidents ever have, a super majority in congress. For the first two years of Obama’s presidency, he could pass anything he wanted, without any opposition from the right, yet he chose health care policies over fiscal policies.

Unfortunately, Americans are feeling the effects of the president’s policies. A recent study shows that almost half of college graduates are working a job that does not require a college degree. Minorities are also hit heavily by president’s failure to turn the economy around. The unemployment for the Black and Hispanic communities are 13.1 percent and 9.6 percent respectively.

America is the freest most prosperous nation in the history of the world, and yet we continue to see terrible economic numbers. When will the President Obama stop demagoguing the issue and take responsibility for the economy he has created?
