Instructor gives thoughts for attending intersession classes

Immediately following the spring semester and before summer school begins is a two week period called intersession, when students can take classes for credit that may not be available other times of year.

Not all colleges offer intersession, so we are fortunate at MSSU.  (My undergraduate school did not have it.)  My graduate school had intersession classes that fellow students recommended as easy credits and GPA boosters.  Credit hours earned during intersession apply to the total number of hours needed to graduate.

Intersession consists of one and two credit classes taken Monday through Friday for two weeks (May 13-24).  Students can register for one or two intersession courses, and may register as early as April 5.  Intersession courses are listed on page 15 of the 2013 Summer/Fall schedule and also at

http://webapps.mssu.edu/StudentPortal/openclasses/openclasslist.aspx.

This intersession I am teaching English 298 Reading Movies (CRN 507), designed to give students a better appreciation for storytelling in movies.

My former student and MSSU graduate Darci Price said of my film courses, “I was shown movies I had never heard of and grew to love some of them.  Intersession was a great way to get easy credit in a short two weeks.”

Her classmate Jason Bogue said, “Just two weeks and you hammer out the class, and you still have a summer free for yourself plus additional hours under your belt.”

Students should add to their university experience by taking intersession classes.  If a MSSU student will be in town in May, there is little reason not to take an intersession course.
