Stress of saying ‘I do’

150 days till I say do and nothing is done.

When I was a little girl, as I’m sure most did, I loved weddings. The brides looked like princesses and everything about them were something out of fairy tale.

Then the day came where I met my prince and I’m wondering why we didn’t run off and get married on the beach.

I realized that weddings cost money, but what I didn’t realize was how much money they actually cost. According to Reuters, the average cost of a wedding in the United States is around $27,201 and the average cost of a wedding in New York is $65, 824.

Umm we have like a $2,000 budget.

So much emphasis is put on making sure your wedding day is perfect.

If at the end of my wedding day I am married to the one that I love shouldn’t that alone ensure I have the perfect day?

Weddings shouldn’t be about what you have on that day, but rather what you’re getting.

While your special day should be just that is it necessary to spend thousands of dollars on it?

My fiancé and I have fought repeatedly over our wedding and the main cause was due to budget concerns and I’m to the point where I just want it to be done. Something I used to be so excited about is now something I’m border-line dreading.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not because I’ve fallen out of love with my future husband, it’s because I’ve fallen out of love with weddings. I just want the marriage.

Not too mention, I’m pretty sure he’s tired of me complaining, asking his opinion and telling him he has to smile in the pictures.

150 days and nothing is done.

Is it too late to elope?
