Reynolds Hall gets a remodel

Bob Harrington, director of the physical plant, and the physical plant staff has undertaken the monumental task of refurbishing Reynolds Hall during the summer semester.

“Reynolds is one of the four original buildings on campus and it’s by far in the worst condition of any building we’ve got on campus,” said Harrington.

The makeover will include new floor tile in public areas on all three floors, as well as fresh paint in all of the hallways. New light fixtures, and lounge furniture are also part of the effort to transform the utilitarian appearance of the hall.

The restrooms on each floor are also being upgraded with hands-free faucets at the basins and automatic flushers on the toilets and urinals.

“I think the improvements will really spruce the place up,” said Christina Hamilton, department secretary for faculty, in Reynolds Hall.

Students attending summer classes in Reynolds hall have not been affected, as work is being performed after school hours.

“I’m glad to see that they are improving the appearance of Reynolds and very much look forward to the day when they improve the functionality of the labs as well,” said Nancy Ellis, speech communication major.

Harrington said that plans for a complete remodel of Reynolds are in the works, but funding is not yet available and could take some time. In the meanwhile, school administration has allowed the work he proposed.

“What we proposed was to allow us to go in and at least upgrade all of the public areas, the main hallways on all three floors so that when people walk in it’s got a much nicer non-institutional appearance.”
