The Lions’ softball team closed out their home season on Tuesday as four seniors played their last game at Lea Kungle Field.

Missouri Southern played host to Rogers State and split the double-header.

In the first game, an error resulted in Rogers State scoring three unearned runs in the first inning. The three runs proved to be enough for Rogers State who went on to win by a tally of 6-0. The Lions struggled to get their bats going and only  tallied five hits in the game, two of which came courtesy of senior right fielder Shelby Romines.

The Lions won the last of the two behind a strong performance from sophomore pitcher Haley Kinnison, who threw a complete game shutout. Kinnison had struggled to find the zone in her last performance, when she walked seven in just two and two-thirds innings, but had no trouble on Tuesday when she only walked one.

“It felt really good to come back after my last performance and shut down Rogers State,” said Kinnison. “It was important to get a win in our last home game for our seniors.”

Kinnison received three runs of support in the game, which all came in the first couple of innings. The final run of the game was driven in by Romines.

Looking ahead, the Lions will end their season with four conference games, all of which take place on the road.

Today, the Lions travel to Warrensburg to compete in a doubleheader with Central Missouri. Central Missouri is 25-17 on the season. The next day the Lions hit the road again, this time to face SBU for their final two games of the year. SBU is 14-24 on the year.

The Lions look to improve on a 17-33 overall record. The team ended their home season with a record of 10-10.

“All I want is to finish the season on a positive note,” said senior left fielder Chloe Brown. “ I want to come out playing the ball our team knows how to play and get some wins.”
