As the semester comes to the end the Lions baseball team moves into a situation of limbo. Caught between the old home of Joe Becker Stadium, and the soon to be built field, located on the Southern campus set to open before the 2015 season.

The new 2.5 million dollar facility will sport a multitude of new amenities for players and fans alike. With state-of-the-art synthetic turf, regulation lighting, dugouts and bathrooms, bullpens and batting cages incorporated for players, the stadium will give players what Joe Becker never could, a true home.

“We already have a great fan base, so I am really glad to see that our hard work in the past has given us the opportunity to showcase it on a great turf field in front of the student body, ” said Tee Helsel, junior medical red shirt and three-year starter.

As for the fans the stadium offers seating for 500 which will allow Southern to host NCAA events, an improved press box, modernized concession area and a viewing deck area that will be available to students as well as alumni groups.

The fields relocation will benefit students once on campus as well. Making events easier to attend in the upcoming season.
