White ready to get season underway

Monica White has been playing volleyball since the seventh grade, and the love she has for it is like no other.

Monica was a stand out two-sport athlete at Gravette High School in Bella Vista, Ark. A three-year starter in both sports, Monica was the Defensive Player of the Year as a junior and was named to the KURM Dream Team as a senior in basketball.

Monica was also a two-time All-Conference and All-State selection in volleyball.

Between the game-winning defensive play in basketball or the game-winning block in volleyball, her decision is clear.

“The game winning block in volleyball for sure,” she said. “The feeling of the perfect set, perfect kill, perfect anything in volleyball just feels amazing.”

White is very superstitious person.

There is a certain way she puts her leg pads on.  As weird as it sounds, it works.

“I still like to keep my jersey tucked in the front, but I no longer care for pre-game rituals since I’ve arrived here at MSSU,” she said. “The pre-game ritual now is focusing on winning.”

On the court, White stands an imposing 6 feet tall, but her best friend Krisha Merriman says that imposing feeling is misleading.

“She’s a blast to be around off the court,” said Merriman.

The Lions are under new leadership and the excitement can be felt throughout the team.

White has been game day ready since day 1.

“I’m so excited to play volleyball,” she said. “The season starts this weekend and it couldn’t come any faster. I’m just ready to get out there with my ladies and win.”

The wait is over as the Lions get going today.
