Golf looks to finish first half strong

The Lion’s Golf team travels to its next tournament, the Central Regional Invite in St. Joseph, after a full week off.

The Central Regional Invite on Oct. 13, is also the team’s last tournament for this semester. Their next tournament will be held in March.

“I personally love playing at St. Joe, but it is a good course for our squad,” said Senior Ryan Buerk.

“The hardest part of the course are the par three’s, but other than that, the course is pretty straight forward and fun,” For the last couple of seasons the team earned fourth and fifth (2012-13), as well as first and third place finishes in the October tournaments that signified the halfway point of the season.

“It means a lot to be in our last tournament of the season,” said Senior Skyler Arbuckle.

“All of the MIAA teams will be at St. Joe, so it will be fun to compete against them and finish the fall season knowing we played well.”

Qualifying took place this week at Twin Hills Golf and Country club, and as Junior Ethan Hutcheson put it, “Coach tricked up the courses to make them more similar to St. Joe.

I played really well this week in qualifiers at Twin Hills and I am looking forward [to]this tournament. Honestly, I am glad it is the last tournament of the fall. It has been a long season because we have all been working our butts off since spring and over the summer, so we are ready for a little break.”

The Lions will play through the 14th to end their fall season before the semester break.
