Southern Stampede highlights Lions on home stage

The Missouri Southern men’s and women’s cross country teams will be back in action tomorrow as they host the Southern Stampede. Both the men’s and women’s are coming off great starts to open the season. Both teams finished in the top three in the Southwest Baptist Invite on Sept. 5, 2015.

Women’s Team:

The Lions women will send 10 athletes to compete tomorrow. Those athletes include Kindra Emberton, Emily Harris, Cynthia Torres, Sierra Gray, Shelby Werner, Sarah Usher, Sara Lin, Alessandra Moss, Cora Butcher-Spellman and Amber White.

White will be making her season debut after not competing in the season opener.

“I had a good first race. There’s always room for improvement and that’s what I look to do tomorrow,” said Werner.

Men’s Team:

The Lions men will send eight athletes to compete tomorrow. Those athletes include Zach Caruthers, Jacob Coffman, Ryan Drendel, Jared Haltom, Nathan Henry, Vincent Kiprop, Luke Johnson and Tyler Rush.

Vincent Kiprop will be making his season debut after not competing in the season opener.

“We expect him (Vincent) to be running up with Tyler,” said head coach Brian Schiding. “We need to have a tighter pack time … Hopefully, we got all of the nerves out in this first race.”

Both the men’s and women’s teams get the first taste of what could possibly be three events held here on campus.

The second two would be the NCAA Central Region Championship and the third would be the all important NCAA Division II Championship.
