Cross Country teams head to Fayetteville, Ark., for Chili Pepper Invite

The Missouri Southern men’s and women’s cross country teams will be back in action tomorrow as they take to the road to compete in the Chili Pepper Invite in Fayetteville, Ark., hosted by the University of Arkansas. Both teams are coming off solid showings at the Southern Stampede hosted by the Lions on Sept. 19. The women finished fifth in the event while the men finished in 14th place, with Vincent Kiprop taking home the individual title.

The Lions will send out nine athletes to compete tomorrow. Those athletes include Kindra Emberton, Emily Harris, Cynthia Torres, Sierra Gray, Shelby Werner, Sarah Usher, Sara Lin, Alessandra Moss and Cora Butcher-Spellman.

“The Southern Stampede was a good start in preparing for the Chili Pepper Invite,” said head coach Patty Vavra. “There will be a great variety of competition. It’ll be another good test for my athletes.”

Men:

The Lions will send out seven athletes to compete tomorrow. Those athletes include Zach Caruthers, Jacob Coffman, Ryan Drendel, Nathan Henry, Jared Holtam, Vincent Kiprop, and Luke Johnson.

“We need to be better in packing up, especially in the beginning for the first mile,” said head coach Bryan Schiding. “But these guys will have a little bit more confidence going into Chili Pepper in Arkansas.”
