Superhero films have been jaw-dropping successes since the first Spider-man movie in 2002. 

There have been some hiccups, but Marvel has churned out success after success and everyone wants a piece of the action. 

Is that a problem though? 

It definitely has potential to be. 

How many superhero movies do you think are coming out this year? 

There are eight confirmed. 

Could you name all of them without looking? 

Here’s the list to check yourself: Batman V Superman, Deadpool, X-men: Apocalypse, Captain America: Civil War, Suicide Squad, Gambit, Doctor Strange and the lesser known Nation Awakes (a film from Pakistan). 

Even the most die-hard fan has to be a little surprised to see that many movies coming out. 

That’s total over $75 out of your pocket going if you go to the evening showing of each. 

However, a truly devoted fan won’t be deterred by a simple cost. The worry is about the average movie-goer. 

Non-super fans are already having a harder time keeping up which movies are related to which, which studio produces which hero, and which TV show does or doesn’t connect to their universes’ movie.  

It’s a lot to take in. 

How long before people are so lost in the sea of screens that they just quit? 

It’s becoming more and more unfriendly to people who don’t keep pace with every move the studios make. 

That goes for Fox, Marvel, and DC and their diverse problems. 

Worse yet, it takes only one truly awful superhero movie to put a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. 

I’m not saying this because I hate superhero movies. I’m saying it because I don’t want them to go down in flames. 

From a business perspective, it makes sense to cut your losses and not keep putting out the movies to a diminishing audience. 

From an artistic perspective, don’t ruin something that just got off the ground fourteen years ago. 

I’m not sure where that point is, but I don’t want it to come for a long time.
