CAB plans Western festivities

The Campus Activities Board plans to put the spurs to the bull next semester. Literally.

With this semester drawing to a close, the CAB began making plans for the fall 2003 semester and Homecoming. The Homecoming theme for next fall, “Southern Stampede,” is giving birth to ideas like mechanical bulls, a makeshift saloon in the Lion’s Den and a country band, just to name a few.

“My goal is to have an awesome Homecoming,” said Julie Blackford, director of student activities.

While no plans have been set yet, Blackford hopes to have all the events planned out before the start of the fall semester. To help accomplish this, Blackford plans to hold CAB meetings once a month over the summer break.

Also up for consideration was a dance during Homecoming. Lyndse Bergen, family events chairperson, was shocked by the fact that there weren’t more dances at Missouri Southern.

“I remember when I first came to Southern, I was amazed that we didn’t have any dances for Homecoming,” she said.

The tentative plan is hold a dance, including several different activities, such as making signs for the Homecoming game, costume contests, prizes and games. CAB hopes to have everything ready to go before the fall so it can promote the events at Fresh Start, Welcome Week and Orientation classes.

Plans are set for Finals Madness, including a rock wall, laser tag, a cash cube, where students can win money, gift certificates and several other prizes. Finals Madness is set for May 7.

This semester’s final CAB meeting is at 2 p.m Monday in the second floor lounge of Billingsly Student Center. It is open to all students.
