Hollywood hypocrites criticize government

I find the fact that our Hollywood entertainers seem to be so politically astute rather interesting, don’t you? It seems they are al-ways up for a comment or two about our government, politicians and state of the country.

The latest has been Johnny Depp’s remark about America being a “dumb puppy that has big teeth.” The thing I don’t understand is why in the world people even care what Depp has to say anyway. Who is he? An actor. I personally don’t care what some Hollywood idol thinks about America. And I can’t understand why our media seems to think it so important and such big news. Everyone’s entitled to his or her opinion and has the freedom of speech to say what he or she wants. (Don’t tell Depp, but that’s because this is America, land of the free, home of the brave and a “dumb puppy.”) But why we need to give such importance, thought and news coverage to what actors and actresses say is beyond me. The funny thing is that Depp is just one of many entertainers so actively “politically oriented” and “knowledgeable.”

Barbra Streisand asked, “How could such a destructive man be so popular with the American people?” Well, Barbra, I can’t understand how Clinton could be so popular with the American people either, but he was. I should note here that I am not a Bush fan either, so don’t automatically label me as such.

Danny Glover called Bush’s administration one of “liars and murderers.” I’m not going to argue with Glover, but doesn’t he know that the last administration was those things too?

Alec Baldwin told reporters he would leave the country if Bush were elected. Well, go ahead. It’s amusing to me that these movie stars are so eager to criticize a country that has brought them millions in wealth. I’m not saying criticism is a bad thing – everyone’s entitled to his or her own opinion. But, what makes these movie stars so educated in the process of American government that they get their opinions published like they’re really worth something?

The real irony is that Depp called the House politicians “idiots” for renaming french fries as “freedom” fries. They may be idiots for doing so, but what would you call yourself, Mr. Depp, for calling America a “dumb puppy” and telling reporters you only want to make short visits to the United States because you don’t agree with the current political climate. I’d call you a hypocrite.
