Group proposes skating party, paintball as possible events
The Campus Activities Board convened Wednesday to discuss future events for the semester.
Fourteen students were in attendance, up from eight on Feb. 4.
The top idea of the meeting was a skate night. CAB discussed possible locations and a theme. No definite location or date has yet been decided.
CAB decided to plan a theme around the various decades of music. Music will start with ’70s and progress each hour to new music. CAB hopes to hold the skate night on a Wednesday night this semester but will make a final decision farther into the semester.
Other ideas included a midnight basketball event, which would take place on Friday nights at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
The proposed event would last until approximately 1 a.m. on Saturday. Further details for the event will be discussed at a later meeting.
Paintball was also mentioned, but no major details were discussed.
“It’s something we’ll look into for sure,” said Julie Blackford, director of student activities. “We have to look at the calendar and see where the gaps are.”
“Last year was a pre-stage, we were getting our feet wet,” said Terry Levy, criminal justice/pre-law major. “This year we’re actually making stuff happen.”
CAB also discussed having a comedian perform on March 8, the first day of Spring Break Blitz.
Possible comedic candidates are Jason Anders, T.P. Hearns and Tom Simmonds.
On March 9, spike-night activities will have an open gym and pool.
Other ideas include karaoke, sumo-suit wrestling and ultimate imaging.
Judges have been named for the talent show on March 10. Judges will be Lee Pound, Deb Gipson and Mark Lloyd.
Possible themes for next semester’s Homecoming were discussed. The four current ideas were Southern Safari, Luau, Southern Mardi Gras or Pirates of the Caribbean.
Blackford was pleased to see so many in attendance and hopes to see a larger group next week.
Students interested in CAB are invited to attend the weekly meetings at 2 p.m., Wednesdays in the student activities office on the second floor of the Billingsly Student Center.
