Although Missouri Southern scored better in the second half, they lost against the Ichabods, ending the game 89-84.

The Lions and the Washburn University Ichabods went head-to-head on Jan. 22 for the second place title in the conference. Both teams were 5-2 for conference play.

“I thought that their zone hurt us,” said Robert Corn, men’s head basketball coach. “We did not do enough to stop it.”

The Lions ended the first half down by 10 points at 46-36. This would later hurt Southern when they ran into trouble due to fouls with 9:30 left in the second half.

Jeremy McCadney, junior forward, would lead Southern in scoring with seven points for the first half. He would end the game with 12 rebounds for a personal total.

Orestus Cavness, senior forward, and McCadney both fouled out within seconds of each other. Cavness would end the game with 10 points.

The Ichabods would fight on to win the game during the second half. With 1:40 left and the score at 85-77, the Lions fought their way to roar back, but it would be to no avail.

Quentin Edwards, junior guard, was the big scorer for the game overcoming his personal goal when he made his all-time-high of 19 points. He also had three offensive rebounds for the game.

The Lions would rebound more than the MIAA’s leader 50-36, but they weren’t able to triumph over 11 first-half turnovers and a 15 percent shooting from long range.

Jeremie Bond, junior center, finished with his game high of 12 rebounds.

The Lions played on Wednesday Jan. 26, against the University of Missouri-Rolla. They would loose by seven points when the game ended with a score of 75-68, although Southern would outscore UMR by seven points in the second half.

Southern’s next game is at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 29, against the Truman State University Bulldogs.
