One local band is still rocking after 26 years. Siblings Dave, Ben and Buffy Peterson along with longtime friend Jeff Kuhns turn Glory Days Music into a concert venue every Saturday night and have been doing so for almost two years.

“Ben, Jeff and I started our first band in 1979, and Buffy has been on and off with us since then,” said Dave.

The Flashbacks is the current name of the band, but the members have played in several other bands together.

The earliest band name was Fuscia, then Night Train. At one time, Dave Ben and Buffy joined their other two siblings and had a family band called the Petersons.

The Flashbacks have not only played at Glory Days. They went on tour for three years but don’t intend on touring again.

Every year for Memorial Day weekend they go to Iowa and play in their hometown. They also play weddings and have played at the Newton County Fair and Webb City’s Mining Days.

They have also opened for many bands ranging from George Jones to Asleep at the Wheel and many others.

In their free time, the members run the Glory Days Music shop and give music lessons.

Currently, they have five music instructors and are teaching around 135 different students how to play music.

Normally the students just want to learn guitar and drums but occasionally someone will want to learn the fiddle.

The band tries not to limit itself to one type of music by playing everything from Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix to the Los Lonely Boys.

“We are doing some current stuff, but mostly we do a variety,” said Ben.

The Flashbacks also try keep things different by changing instruments.

Ben plays the harmonica and drums. Kuhns plays bass, drums and guitar. Dave plays fiddle, keyboard and guitar.

“We like to rotate a lot [of instruments] when we’re playing,” Dave said.

Ben said they don’t just have the same crowd every week. There are the core four or five people, but for the most part, the crowd is different every week.

The band plays in a venue that holds up to 75 but for the last couple of weeks there has been standing room only.

For more information about The Flashbacks, they perform weekly from 8 to 11 p.m., at the Glory Days Music Cafe, located in the back of Glory Days Music. Other information on the band, students can contact Glory Days Music at 206-2525.
