Team earns No.25 ranking after win streak

After winning five games in a row, the Missouri Southern women’s soccer team earned a No. 25 ranking in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas NCAA Division II Top 25 poll.

In the game against Emporia State University Sept. 16, Southern won the match 1-0.

Freshman midfielder Nikki Llewellyn scored the only goal in the 80th minute with an assist by sophomore midfielder/forward Erin Whelan.

Llewellyn had three shots and two on goal. Freshman defender/midfielder Christina Kleekamp had two shots and two on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kaney Tyler had four saves.

The Lions then played in a match against Washburn University Sept. 18. The game ended in a scoreless draw.

Freshman midfielder/forward Jentri White had two shots and two shots on goal.

Llewellyn and sophomore midfielder Amy Davis had two shots and one on goal. Tyler had 10 saves during the match.

The team’s record is 5-2-1 and 2-0-1 in the MIAA after the Sept. 18 game.

The Lions travel to Kirksville Saturday to play against the Truman State University Bulldogs.

They will return home for a game on Monday to play Central Missouri State University. The game is set for 6 p.m.
